A child’s world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement

Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder (1965)

A Curriculum Built on Wonder

At World of Wonder Day Nursery, we see childhood as a precious, magical journey filled with wonder, curiosity, imagination and discovery. Our vision is to create a peaceful, nurturing and inspiring environment where every child feels safe, valued and truly seen.

Drawing on the principles of Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Steiner, Te Whāriki, Emmi Pikler and Elizabeth Jarman and aligned with the EYFS and Birth to 5 Matters, our approach is rooted in meaningful relationships, beautifully designed environments and rich, hands-on experiences.

We offer a calm, nature-rich, home-like setting that encourages exploration, independence, creativity and warm, secure connections — laying the foundations for a lifelong love of learning.

From our Little Wonders to our Mini Explorers and Big Discoverers, each room is thoughtfully created to meet children exactly where they are, supporting their unique interests, developmental needs and natural drive for inquiry and joyful learning.

Our outdoor spaces extend this philosophy, offering forest school adventures, mud kitchen play, planting areas and peaceful reflection zones — a true celebration of nature and the limitless possibilities it provides.

Our Educational Approach

Our curriculum is shaped by a blend of respected early years philosophies, each bringing unique richness to a child’s development.

We are inspired by:

  • Reggio Emilia – celebrating children as capable, collaborative learners.
  • Steiner – nurturing rhythm, imagination and connection with nature.
  • Montessori – encouraging independence, purposeful activity and order.
  • Te Whāriki – promoting belonging, relationships and holistic growth.
  • Emmi Pikler – honouring respectful care and freedom of movement.
  • Elizabeth Jarman – creating communication-rich, sensory-aware spaces.

Together, these influences create a curriculum that is deeply respectful, child-centred and grounded in meaningful learning experiences.

Aligned with EYFS & Birth to 5 Matters

Our curriculum is fully aligned with the EYFS (2021) and Birth to 5 Matters, ensuring an inclusive, high-quality and flexible framework that meets the needs of every child.

We support development across all seven EYFS areas of learning, guided by key principles:

  • The unique child
  • Positive relationships
  • Enabling environments
  • Learning & development

Our Values in Daily Practice

Respectful relationships sit at the heart of everything we do. We treat the environment as a third teacher, offering purposeful spaces that invite exploration and discovery.

Children experience freedom supported by gentle guidance, consistent rhythms and warm routines.

Observation and documentation allow us to understand each child deeply.

Creativity, imagination, family partnership, sustainability and a deep connection with nature enrich every experience.

Our Rooms

Little Wonders (0–2 years)

A warm, secure, sensory-rich space where attachment, discovery, and freedom of movement are prioritised. Gentle, respectful care helps our youngest children feel safe as they explore their world.

Mini Explorers (2–3 years)

A lively environment supporting growing independence, social development, communication, and curiosity. Children are encouraged to interact, investigate, express themselves and build confidence as active learners.

Big Discoverers (Preschool)

A dynamic space where inquiry, imagination, and preparation for lifelong learning come together. Children explore questions, test ideas, collaborate, and express their unique ways of thinking — building the confidence and problem-solving skills needed for their next steps.

Our Outdoor Learning

Nature plays a vital role in our curriculum. Our outdoor spaces offer endless opportunities for adventure, creativity and reflection.

Children experience:

  • Forest school area – resilience, exploration and connection with nature
  • Mud kitchen – imaginative and sensory-rich play
  • Planting areas – hands-on learning about growth, life cycles and caring for living things
  • Reflection zones – calm, mindful spaces to pause, wonder and process their world

These environments nurture curiosity, wellbeing and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.

Our Promise

Across every space — indoors and outdoors — we create environments that invite children to explore, create, discover and thrive.

Everything we do is grounded in the belief that children learn best when they feel safe, respected, and inspired.

In wonder we learn. In connection we grow. And when we slow down enough to listen, the child shows us how to teach.
